Hawk Winged Wrap is the next inspired creation; 1t is One of Three pieces of the Hawk project.
This project started out with the idea of making a simple hawk mask which covered the eyes & nose portion of the face. It now is a hat, cowl & wrap. The wrap is a combination of traditional knitting & brioche knitting, the shawlette border is using both techniques in the same row. Individual feathers of varying sizes are being brioche knit & will be attached to the bottom of the shawlette making a full size shawl which can be danced in.
Do not let not knowing how to do something deter you for an inspired project. Inspiration is a gift both while creating the project & how it will be used or seen after it has been created. For the hawk project I wet felted a base for the individual feathers to be attached to; 2nd time ever wet felting. The small feathers of the hat are beaded; 1st time ever using beads while knitting. A major component of the wrap is the brioche feathers; I did not know how to knit brioche. Mind you, I’m created the patterns as I went. I am using pieces of other patterns as a jumping off point. A friend who is a master knitter & my knitting muse assists collaborating as needed. I say this so you see, we are all capable of creativity beyond what we have done before.

Bear mask started as a drawing which looked nothing like the inspired finished product. The Bear mask was woven flat. The strings were pulled shaping it into 3 dimensional engagement. The shield is needle felted. Project was mid way when inspiration struck.
